Millicent’s offers a wide variety of classes for beginners and advanced knitters. Beginner/Refresher classes are scheduled several times every month and are limited to 6 students. Other popular classes rotate every several months. Special classes may be requested.  Full tuition payment guarantees a place in the class.  All tuition will be refunded if a student cancels two days before the beginning of a class. If notification is later, only 80% of the tuition payment will be refunded.

Spinning with the Barefoot Spinner - February 5, 2 – 4 pm

Maureen Pritchard returns to us the first Sunday of every month through April.  She will introduce you to spinning skills or help you progress.  Her help in invaluable.  The more you work with her, the more you are able to spin with control.  Wheels are available for class use and to rent for home use.  Fee:  $20


Project Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom – February 25, 1 – 3 pm

For those students who have a basic knowledge of rigid heddle looms, this one day workshop with Shirley Carnahan will teach you to the log-cabin weave, using wool instead of cotton for your project.  It will be a great follow-up to our introductory workshop!  Fee:  $30

Knitting for Beginners and Refreshments

The aim of this class is to make you an intelligent knitter in beginning skills and will launch you toward advanced beginner skills within a month.  Using a sampler scarf as learning tool,  you will acquire skills in knitting and purling, in creating 10 different stitch patterns, in increasing, in reading a graphic chart.  The class fee includes two skeins of yarn, your needles, your pattern, along with a number of doodads (otherwise known as accessories).  First class is 2 hours long.  The remaining three classes are 1 ˝ hours each.

Time: Sunday, Feb. 5 (2 - 4), Feb. 12, 19, 26 (2 – 3:30)

AND Thursday, Feb. 9 (10:30 to 12:30), and Feb. 16, 23, and Mar. 2 (10:30 – 12)

Fee:  $80 includes all materials, 6 ˝ hours of instruction and unlimited access to instructor for help.


Crochet for Beginners

Crochet is becoming a hot-item again.  Not to be confused with your grandmother’s crochet, the new designs in crochet are youthful, creative, stylish and even daring.  Our crochet for beginners is your chance to try out this skill with an experienced teacher.  Learn to chain, single, half, double and triple crochet.  Discuss crochet patterns and charts.  Begin a project of your choice.

Felted Hats and Bags with Flair

Karen came up to me this week and announced that she was going to put aside all her boring leather handbags made in China or wherever and begin creating a wardrobe of felted bags that she made herself!  And are we going to knit just ordinary bags?  Not on your life!  This is a class with FLAIR!  We will experiment with the flair first and try out stripes, novelty yarns, beads, ruffles, flowers, and cut work.  Then you will select a project (hat or small bag) to create and embellish to satisfy your creative whims.

Tatting

You are asking for it, and here it is!  Carolyn Groves, an experienced and active tatter, will be teaching you how to tat with a tatting needle (not a shuttle), how to picot, make rings, and form it all together into a project – or two.  This delicate lace-making technique is a delight!

Fee:  $45 plus the cost of instructional materials (to be supplied by Carolyn)

 

Winter Sweater Evenings

Come join us through the end of March as we work on our sweaters.  Usually long term projects, sweaters move along more quickly when gather with friends to support you on your way.  Join us every week, or every other week, or once a month!  We will be here for you!  (PS – Never tried a sweater before?  This is great opportunity to learn!)

(PPS – All you have tried are scarves?  We have a great vest pattern for you that will not try your patience!)  (PPPS – Try it, try it, green eggs and ham!)

Entralac Market Bag

Many of you have come into Millicent’s and seen our Entralac Market Bag, done up in pastel colors, constructed of triangles and diamonds, and (what else?) felted!   And many of you have asked that we offer a class so that you can have one too!  Here is your chance!  The Market Bag includes the following skills:  knitting, purling, working entralac in the round, picking up stitches, decreasing, stitch counting, persistence.  New skills:  short rowing to create the entralac effect.  It’s fun, and once you’ve got the idea down in the first two rounds, you’ll be flying!  (You can also see the Entralac Market Bag here on our website – it is used as an icon!)
