Only two spaces still open in our Dye Your Own Sock Yarn Workshop – Sunday, July 13 (10 – 4)

Maureen Pritchard, our instructor, will hold the workshops at her studio just outside of Romney where she has the dyes, equipment, and drying space for the event.  The $60 fee will include snacks and soft beverages, two skeins of sock yarn to dye, plus instruction.  Maureen will also make roving (for spinners) available in lieu of the sock yarns.  You are asked to bring a sandwich or salad for your lunch.  Believe me, Maureen is glorious hostess, so you won’t need to bring more than a basic sandwich --- she’ll supply the chips, veggies, etc etc.

New yarn for the fall

TWEEDS are the in thing for this coming fall, as well as lace.  We have already received a shipment of merino laceweight yarn which comes in skeins of 1375 yards!   We’ll be offering you a lace class in July to learn to work with this yarn.  Our tweeds are coming in 100% wool and in a wool-angora mix.  We’re also getting some great baby yarns, a machine washable bulky-weight yarn, a hand-painted silk yarn and (need I say it?) some great new sock yarn.  In addition to the new yarns, we are replenishing our stock of Cascade 220, Arucania, Silky Wool from Elsbeth Lavold, Noro and Louet yarns in many colors.  Only the best for Millicent’s knitters!  Fall yarns will arrive between July and September.  Be sure to stop in.

Uses for Sock Yarn

Love sock yarn but don’t want to knit socks just now.  You can use it for baby sweaters – the patterned sock yarn is really neat!  Mix it with a lace-weight mohair for adult mittens or hats.  Use it for scarves – try a lace pattern with a solid colored sock yarn.

Try our new Heritage Sock Yarn from Cascade for this Feather and Fan Scarf pattern:
