BLOCK OF THE MONTH CLUB

We have reached the closure of our Great American Aran Afghan Block-of-the-Month-Club.  Whew!  Some of us have knit lots of squares – and some of us have 6 or 9 or fewer.  Come to this last meeting to learn how to sew your squares together and how to knit your edging.  We will meet

Wednesday, Feb 3 at 2, Wednesday Feb 3 at 5, and Sunday, Feb 7 at 1.

NEW BLOCK OF THE MONTH CLUB!

We’ve tried this idea out on a number of folk, and have come to the conclusion that this will be fun: Ta Da!  Our new block of the month club will be HATS – 12 different hats, one for each month.  We will meet the first Wednesday and first Sunday of every month, starting in March.  We will using Charlene Schurch’s book Hats On ($18.95) as a starting point (there might be months where we want to venture into something different).  The book has basic hats, mitered square hats, herringbone patterned hats, and lots and lots of exquisite Fair Isle hats.  Please let us know as soon as possible if we can order a copy of the book for you.

JOLA’S THOUGHTS

(ED. Jola is now Media Coordinator for Millicent’s Yarns & More !!!  Watch in the paper and other county bulletins for Millicent info.)

We have had such a great response to Sunday Socials.  It’s a time for learning and sharing new skills and designs, but also connecting with knitters both local and from afar.  It’s wonderful to experience the camaraderie (“we’re in this together and we’re all here”), friendship (that extends beyond the shop), and enthusiasm for knitting (“Wow, look at THIS!) in a setting that stimulates the creative part of us.  Mel’s worked very hard to establish an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and safe.  Our regular customers are as welcoming to newcomers – and as helpful -- as our staff which creates that feeling of family and caring.  I’ve always thought that is what makes Millicent’s so special.

FEBRUARY SUNDAY SOCIAL

Sunday, Feb. 14, 1:00 – 4:00

Our Sunday Social pattern for February is the Calorimetry which can be found in Knitty.com, issue Winter 2006.  Calorimetry is a head scarf that is worn buttoned at the nape of the neck. The pattern calls for one skein of  Filatura di Crosa’s Print 127 which we have in 8 colors – eight – which costs under $8.20.  You will need size 8 needles, straight or circular.

Do remember that our Sunday Socials are for newer as well as skilled knitters.  You will receive two free patterns and a lesson at no fee.  We ask that you purchase your yarn and whatever needles you need at Millicent’s. Feel free to join us!  We have a heck of a lot of fun!

THURSDAY AFTERNOON KIDS KNIT Our program for children continues – the kids continue to amaze us with their sense of adventure.  Children ages 6 and up are welcome to Millicent’s on Thursday afternoons at 3:30 to 4:30 to learn and increase their skills in knitting and crocheting.  Parents are asked to pick up children by 4:45 at the latest please!

Knit on, knit on, through all your happiness and woes!

Mel, Dick, Judith, Jola, Joanna, and Geni
